Smart Cities Living Lab

The Dallas Innovation Alliance (DIA) created and implemented its Phase I Smart Cities Living Lab in the West End of Downtown Dallas, as part of the burgeoning Dallas Innovation District. The Living Lab was the fastest-to-market smart cities initiative in the country. The vision was revealed in 2016 via concept renderings from BOKA Powell, and a virtual reality experience from Dallas-based 900lbs of Creative.

The DIA will address key challenges faced by Dallas, and cities around the world, around aging infrastructure, strained natural and fiscal resources, and increased density in the urban core, while providing the technology and connectivity needed to power the future for all Dallasites.

Phase I - Smart Cities Living Lab

Initial efforts were centered in the West End district of downtown, where a confluence of multi-modal transit, walkability, historic buildings and a burgeoning innovation district serves as ground zero for the city as a living lab, and a three-pronged strategy will center on infrastructure, mobility and connected living. The first phase of the DIA Smart Cities Living Lab powered by AT&T was launched in March 2017, with a case study of Year One results published in November 2018.
